1-To be responsible for the provision of Microbiology services
Microbiology Consultant staff to deliver a high quality service and ensure that it is
responsive to the needs of clinicians.
2-To be a flexible member of the team of Consultant microbiologists providing consistent
harmonised clinical advice and to communicate well both verbally and in writing.
3-To provide a robust clinical liaison and infection control service to both trusts –
supporting the infection prevention and control team and attendance at outbreak
meetings, antimicrobial stewardship meetings
4-To actively participate in the teaching programme for undergraduate students from the
University of Birmingham Medical School at both sites
(There is the opportunity to be awarded an Honorary Senior Lecturer post at Birmingham
University.)
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS –
1-Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical
Council (GMC) (or eligible for registration within six months of interview)
2-Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of
Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
3-Applicants should hold a CCT in Microbiology or a dual CCT in Microbiology & Infectious
Diseases.
4-Applicants that are non- UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to
the UK CCT / FRCPath or equivalent qualification and experience
